In a sun‑kissed Caribbean where wooden galleons roar with cannon fire, pirates forge perilous pacts with fey courts to wield storm, flame, and shadow as their own, while European powers vie for dominance over the island archipelago. Amid the glittering gold of trade and the roar of battle, faith clashes—angels, saints, and the true divine struggle against the capricious fey for the hearts of mortals.

World Overview

Set in a semi-historical version of 17th century Earth. The primary setting is intended to be the Caribbean and the Golden Age of Piracy that dominated the area, but it is inclusive to the entirety of the planet if desired. The underlying system of magic is the existence of Fey Courts. People make contracts with Fey beings that grants them magical powers that align with that Fey being's remit with nature. Technology aligns with technology in the 17th century. Flintlock weapons have become common, ships have cannons, ships are wooden hulled and powered by sails.

Geography & Nations

Spain is the dominant power in the Caribbean, holding major nations like Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia. France holds Haiti and a few of the island chain. England has the Bahamas and a few of the island chain, and the Dutch have a couple small islands like Curacao. Spain is waning and losing territory, while England and the Dutch are taking land from Spain. France is primarily interested in restricting growth of England and the Dutch, and France is not interested in expanding their territory.

Races & Cultures

Humans are the only intended playable species in the world, though creatures from mythologies like Gnomes exist and can be played if desired. Fey creatures exist and are virtually everywhere.

Current Conflicts

The Caribbean is undergoing colonization and trade with Europe from the Caribbean is a massive business. Piracy has become prevalent in the Caribbean due to the limited ability of European powers to patrol the Caribbean. Piracy is intended to be the glorified myth of piracy and not intended for the more gritty aspects of piracy. France, Great Britain, Spain, and the Dutch are all in a series of conflicts in the Caribbean. Starting France and Spain are aligned against Great Britain and the Dutch.

Magic & Religion

The underlying system of magic is the existence of Fey Courts. People make contracts with Fey beings that grants them magical powers that align with that Fey being's remit with nature. For example, if you make a contract with a Fey creature that is attuned to storms, you would have an ability to use lightning and thunder offensively, create rain, and other things related to storms. Making contracts with Fey creatures is rare, and the Fey creature must see a benefit to the contract. Once the contract is made, it is permanent. If the human dies, the contract ends and the Fey is released. Native Fey Courts exist in the Caribbean, an example would be a Voodoo based Fey Court that is divided into a Seelie and Unseelie division with Archfey Monarchs such as Seelie led by Erzulie (Love and Beauty) and Unseelie led by Baron Semedi (death). Foreign Fey have accompanied colonial powers, such as the traditional Scottish Fey Court with a Seelie Court led by Oberon and Titania, and an Unseelie Court led by Queen Mab. Christianity exists and is at odds with the Fey. Angels exist and bond with people called Saints. While it is at least similar to bond that Fey make with people, Christianity disputes that it is the same and that it is the true religion. Islam exists in the same way, but is not significant in the Caribbean. Christianity for a mechanical perspective can be viewed as a Fey court that is populated by Angels as the spirits. The Christian God is called the True God and functions as an extremely powerful Fey, it is extremely unlikely that the True God will form a bond.
