In a world where the Olympian gods still meddle in mortal affairs, the ancient city of Athens and the war‑fervent Troy are pitted against each other in a divine chess game of blood and glory, while demigods and monstrous creations roam the land, forged by bored deities for sport. Amidst the bustling trade of Thebes and the intoxicating revelry of Nemea, mortals chase godly favor, hoping to earn the blessings of Athena, Demeter, or even the elusive Ares—yet every step forward risks the wrath of a capricious pantheon and the looming threat of the River Styx’s eternal bargain.

World Overview

Based on Greek mythology, the gods were real and significantly intervened in the time of the romanticized Greek Renaissance. Their actions affected the lives of deities, heroes, demigods, and monsters, all while mortals went about their lives. Magic is abundant, technology is for the mortals reaching for godhood, while Athens and Troy are at war.

Geography & Nations

The kingdom of Thebes, set in the middle of the realm, with the mountain of Olympus as its backdrop, is a place of travelers and making money, watched over by the goddess of harvest Demeter and the god of messengers Hermes. The great city of Nemea, home of the carefree and wine, is watched over by Dionysus. The great Athens, home of the righteous followers of the goddess of wisdom Athena, is also a great city. The city of Troy, a city devoted to the art of war, is fondly watched over by the god of war Ares. The mountain of Olympus, where the gods reside, an almost quasi-separate realm where only gods and demi-gods can reside, is ruled over by King God Zeus, no mortal can enter. The realm of Hades, only enterable by the river styx, where the dead that cross the river with payment enter to live out their eternal death, watched over by Hades god of death. The River Styx, watched by Cerberus, the three-headed dog protector of Hades and the dead, and Charon, the ferryman of the dead, is a river where the dead pay him in 'death coins' (earned by having a proper burial). If they are unable to pay, they are cursed to reside in the River Styx, unable to reach the afterlife.

Races & Cultures

The race of the gods who inhabit what they are gods/goddesses over are immortal beings who are so bored with unlimited time that they amuse themselves by causing strife and merriment to the mortals they preside over. Demi-gods, who are half-mortal half-god, usually the result of gods meddling in mortal affairs, they are usually stronger than their god counterpart, but are mortal and can die. Monsters, usually something the gods designed, sometimes out of boredom or malice, are usually perverted forms of what they once were, i.e., centaur (head and torso of a man and the bottom half of a horse), gorgons (women with the body of a snake and snakes for hair), etc. Mortals, followers of their many gods, hope for the blessing of one.

Current Conflicts

The gods are petty and bored. Ares pissed off Athena, so now they have moved pieces in the mortal realm to start a war between Athens and Troy to see which is better.

Magic & Religion

Magic is either awarded by gods or earned through years of holy prayer. Demi-gods are able to use the powers of their godly parent without having to. Gods are as follows: Zeus, King of gods, powers over the sky and thunder. Hera, Queen of gods, marriage, family.Poseidon Sea, earthquakes, horses. Demeter: Harvest, agriculture, seasons. Athena: Wisdom, strategy, crafts, warfare. Apollo: Sun, music, poetry, healing, prophecy. Artemis: Hunt, wilderness, moon, childbirth. Ares: War, violence, rage. Aphrodite: Love, beauty, lust. Hephaestus: Fire, blacksmiths, forges. Hermes: Messenger, trade, travelers, thieves. Dionysus: Wine, madness, ecstasy. Hades: God of the Underworld. Hestia: Goddess of hearth and home. Persephone: Queen of the Underworld, daughter of Demeter.

Planar Influences

The gods live on Olympus Mountain, a real mountain that is the connection point from the mortal plane to the god plane. Gods are massive and can only be perceived in their true forms on Olympus (Mount Olympus). To interact with the mortal plane, they must shrink and sometimes change form to be seen (most mortals cannot see gods even on the mortal plane). The realm of Hades is only reachable through the river Styx, which only appears to those who have died, with the ferryman Charon ready to take them across if he is paid, otherwise the river Styx calls and grabs at the souls unable to cross.

Historical Ages

The primordial area began before with Zeus killing the primordial gods and caging them deep within the River Styx. Then came the Renaissance, with the gods becoming bored in this calm era, causing mayhem and merriment to the mortals.

Economy & Trade

Gold is the standard currency across the realm. Trade routes start from Thebes as it is the center of everything.

Law & Society

Justice is administered by either the kingdom guard or the city's guards; those who follow Athena are regarded as more than capable of enacting justice. Society views adventures as godsent, as many dangers and monsters roam.

Monsters & Villains

Primordial god Chaos, stuck in the River Styx, always calls for Chaos, as is his nature. Ares, stuck in a rage of boredom, causes war to satisfy his lust for violence. Dionysus is the god of madness for a reason.
