World Overview

The world is a dystopian gothic high fantasy realm ruled over by a melancholic godmoon which looms over the world.

Geography & Nations

The continent of the Gloamlands is surrounded by the vast Bleeding Sea. Its principal kingdoms are the Papal Kingdoms, the Waxen Realm of Wickzia, the Kingdom of Gondewynn, the Duchy of Ruvania, the Blighted Lowcountry and the vast Realm of Halruun. Major cities within the Gloamlands include the Papal capital of Carcosa, the Wickzian capital of Candelabra, the city of Belfry and the swampy city of Innsmouth.

Races & Cultures

All manner of beings unfortunately inhabit the Gloamlands and daily more and more sorrowful souls wash ashore upon the pale sands of the Gloam Eyed Moons domain.

Current Conflicts

Politically the Gloamlands are separated by those loyal to the Moon Eyed Popes Church of the Moon and those who side with the Wax Kings Cultus Candalum. There is also the secretive and underground monastic organization known as the Order of the Selfless Light who seek to ultimately overthrow the Gloam Eyed Moons rule. Recently, the Moon Cardinal Alastair Severin has begun to scheme against the power of the Moon Eyed Pope all while the Selfless Maidens of the Order of Selfless Light have begun recruiting newly washed ashore souls into their order to bolster their power against the moons rule. There is also the scheming plots of the various dragons that serve under the Moons glow, including the Wax dragon Methuselah, the Mist dragon Veltharion and the Stone dragon Enoch.

Magic & Religion

Most magic within the Gloamlands is derived from the glow or the bestowed grace of the Gloam Eyed Moons pale glow. Still though, other deities and the magic of the land itself is viable and powerful. Alchemists also exist, crafting brews, potions and elixirs within strange laboratories throughout the land. Necromancy also exists within the land, as death itself bows to the will of the Gloam Eyed Moon.

Planar Influences

The Gloamlands is its own separate plane of existence, one where the Gloam Eyed Moon was long ago imprisoned and one where he now rules as sovereign. The Gloamlands also seemingly exist as a universal destination for all the lost souls of the material world.

Historical Ages

Long before the Gloam Eyed Moon came to reign here peoples and races existed under the magnificent glow of a bright sun. Yet, during some sort of mysterious and cataclysmic event, the Gloam Eyed Moon was brought to these lands, where he preceded to corrupt and conquer all. He made pacts with the strange Moorgiants and the dragons for immortality and allegiance and waged war upon all those who chose not to submit to his rule. Within the lands there exist several ancient ruins of lost giants and trolls, most notable of these is the Oathstones of Eldruun.

Economy & Trade

Most of the Gloamlands exists within a feudal system, where the people endure serfdom under the rule and control of lords and nobles who control much of the land wealth.

Monsters & Villains

Several strange and esoteric organizations exist within the Gloamlands, including the Order of the Clositered Veil and the League of Pestilence. Also the lands and rule areas of the Gloamlands are chock full of dangerous creatures and strange monsters.
