In the dimmed light of a shattered kingdom, scattered towns of Brath cling to survival amid alien flora and mutated beasts that stalk the ash‑laden wilderness, while fearless Sprinters brave the ever‑changing, perilous routes to trade and deliver hope. Low‑magic remnants of the old realm pulse through bloodlines, yet the greatest battle remains: humanity’s desperate struggle against a relentless, single‑minded cosmic threat that seeks to erase all traces of its former glory.

World Overview

Brath used to be a pleasant and peaceful, magical medieval kingdom. 1000 years ago, an asteroid belt broke, raining meteoric destruction on the land and raising sediment that dims the sun to this day., Alien flora and fauna contained in those asteroids now dominate the land. Descendants of Brathian survivors hole up in Brathian ruins, now isolated, fortified communities. Traveling between these settlements cannot be done my normal folk. There are those who aid these towns by traversing the ever-dark, alien wilderness. These messengers, transporters, and heroes are called Sprinters. The alien flora infested creatures on the planet, mutating them. The “virus” is unable to spread further, however all of the infested creatures, and the purely alien creatures, have a single minded goal. To wipe everything out of its control off the face of the damaged planet. The magic level is low magic, sorcerers are rare but known. The major adventures are travel and survival. Technology is low. People live in the ruins of a fallen civilization and use the dangerous natural world to their advantage. Skills such as alchemy and crafting are used by Sprinters to survive in the wild.

Geography & Nations

There is no central kingdom or government. Isolated towns of varying size try to survive in a planet overgrown with alien wilds and mutated creatures. Sprinters are welcomed in and out of each city as they bring gifts, messages, lessons from the wild, and trade goods.

Races & Cultures

Each town has their own culture but they are largely rooted in classic medieval tropes. Classic fantasy races coexist within, but some towns are predominantly one race, depending on what that area was like before the asteroids came down. The towns are spread out with dangerous alien wilds between them, so communication is uncommon.

Current Conflicts

There are infrequent conflicts between towns. The biggest conflict is man against the alien wilderness. Mutated animal beasts and aliens attack people in the wild, sometimes attacking settlements. The flora is often dangerous. Sprinters must keep moving while they are between towns, and survival is the chief challenge.

Magic & Religion

There is magic from the old kingdom of Brath, passed down by blood. Some people inherit their family’s magical abilities.

Planar Influences

There are no other planes. There are the Ruins of the Kingdom Brath which is littered with asteroid remains and overgrown alien wilds, and there are the cosmos above where alien life came from

Historical Ages

The Kingdom of Brath at its full glory was a prosperous medieval, high fantasy kingdom. Only ruins of it remain. The asteroids brought alien flora and fauna that took over and forced people into small pockets of civilization for survival.

Economy & Trade

Gold is still a currency though it is rarer. Bartering goods or services is common. Trade routes exist for Sprinters only. It is too dangerous for anyone else to leave their towns. The routes are dangerous and ever-changing as the alien wilderness grows.

Law & Society

Justice is administered differently depending on the town. All societies welcome and use Sprinters, but each governs their own people differently.

Monsters & Villains

The alien wilderness features normal animals mutated by the virus, alien forms of plant life, and alien creatures. Some towns may have bad people in them too, but most are peaceful.
