Magic & Religion

Magic is tied closely to religion, which is the Church. The Church governs and moderates the use of magic in the population, those who practice magic must pass an exam by the Church to obtain a license to become an artificier. The strongest artificier of the world are usually the Pontiff and senior members of the Church. Not all individuals can use magic, the Church detects the presence of potential through a device called a Mirror. Magic comes in many forms but the Church has grouped them into different "teachings": Script Teaching - rune magic, magic involves writing and incantations Theological Teaching - Holy magic, light magic, divination Astrological Teaching - Rarest form of legal magic, involves astrology Alchemy - "Poor man's magic" Heretical Magic - banned or forbidden magic.

Renaissance - A concurrent period in the Late Middle Ages where magic has been less associated with ecclesiastical institutions. Classical Antiquity - Golden Age of sorcery and magic

Economy & Trade

Trade is rampant throughout the continent, as the Aurum left highways which are maintained and connect throughout the continent. Ship navigation is also advanced enough for countries such as the United Provinces and the Northern Kingdoms to utilise large cargo ships to conduct trade into the southern coasts.

Law & Society

There is canon law and secular law. One is based on theological issues and is the matter of the Church, the other is based on the laws of the common. Laws and regulations different across village to village, fiefdom to exemptions. It is hard to have a unified law in this decentralised system. But one thing is for sure that the laws of kings, emperors and the Church or any reputable authority are to be heeded.
