Amidst sprawling kingdoms, a rebellious resistance, and an empire ruled by a demonic lord, ancient dragons, cursed golems, and cults of eldritch horrors stir the seas and forests, threatening to unravel the fragile balance between freedom and tyranny.

There are also devils, demons, and fallen angels that people may devote themselves too, however power gained from these sources are dangerous and can curse the user. The gods can do everything to communicate with the mortals but cannot come down to planet and so may choose avatars and challengers to do their bidding.

Geography & Nations

A Continent known as Malnaron. There are 5 territories as well as an island. In the centre of the continent is a large lake protruding through 4 territories called Lake Riyeka, a hub for trade and the movement of goods and people. In the Southwest is the largest territory known as Kingdom Avalon, a royal kingdom with the royal capital called Calnoron in the centre. on the southwest coast of this territory is a relatively large cove named "Mulstone Cove". protruding southwest from the lake is a river that narrowly travels past the north side of Calnoron and continues until it reaches the west coast. North of this river, but still within the territory of Kingdom Avalon is a forest that covers one third of the kingdom's territory, called the shadow grove forest, which continues over the border into the territory which is the northwest quatre of the continent called the resistance. This border between the Kingdom Avalon and the resistance has old and ancient ruins scattered across it, from before the two territories were allied. Just northeast of the end of this forest that covers about one sixth of the southern region of the resistance, is the capital, now called Paligenesia. The east border of the resistance is covered by a mountain range that begins in a large mountainous region in the north of the resistance called Howler peaks. the mountain range crosses the eastern border into the unowned north-eastern quatre of the continent consisting of the north-northeast smaller territory known as Dragnerth where it is believed the nest of the dragons resides, and the more eastern central territory called Ingthor where goblin and orc tribes settle, and a range of territorial mythical beasts reside. A river protruding north northeast of the lake travels to the northern quatre of Ingthor before splitting into two more rivers; one that travels northwest into the resistance, between paligenesia and the howler peaks until reaching the northwest coast, and another river that travels further northeast into dragnerth before reaching the north coast. The southeast quatre of the continent is the territory known as the Empire. The capital city of the empire called Ethrak sits in the northeast quatre of the empire, away from the border with the kingdom Avalon. The southern third of the empire, against the jagged coastline is a huge city of slums and swamps, where the law does not reach and the spirits dare not attempt to heal. The Western region of the empire is dense with deserted towns from families that escaped during the dark age. the north of the empire is rife with ancient demonic ruins and untapped fallen angel relics. A river travels from the lake southeast into the centre of the empire before splitting into two rivers; one that reaches the east coast and one that travels west into the territory of Kingdom Avalon before bending south and reaching the south coast, with this series of rivers basically splitting the empire into thirds. There is an island to the northwest of the continent called Outcast Island. On Outcast Island there is a prison called Urthreight, that is shared between the allied territories of Kingdom Avalon and the resistance.

Races & Cultures

Across the continent there are countless races, with some being rarer and more sparce than others. In the empire, Races such as humans, Dwarves, and Orcs rule the land and persecute less humanistic races such as beast-folk, fairies and Satyrs; as well as capturing and exploiting creatures for their gain. Kingdom Avalon houses all races without persecution, however there is some social divide between races such as humans, elves, and other holy races looking down upon races like lizardfolk, goblins, and dwarves. The northern half of Kingdom Avalon embraces and accepts beastfolk whilst the southern half shuns them. In the Resistance, all races are accepted and differences are celebrated, however, there is occasionally some infighting between races that have bad history together such as between Orcs and elves, as well as Humans and Githyanki. The Empire is ruled secretly by a Devil name Ulndear, who has chosen his avatar, a half Orc half Human called Yildirus who dictates the Empire with a small committee of his closest followers. Kingdom Avalon is ruled by a historical human royal family with a long lineage of strong magic users and a particular closeness with the sun god. The Leader of the Elves "Ingrid" lives within the forest in a holy village with a large pack of others, however Elves are allowed to roam freely through the kingdom and so may not only be found in that forest. Some elves now live in the resistance after travelling there to support the efforts to overthrow the previous corrupt government. The Resistance is now ruled by a half human half Tiefling named Plyraus who is supported by his many followers after he led the coup against the former corrupt government. Races such as Lizard-folk and Hobgoblins tend to be hired as mercenaries as they do not have any particular history or home within any territory. Dragonfolk and dragons tend to live within the territory of Dragnerth where the nest of dragons resides. Wyvern and other scaled races may also be found here. In the unconquered territory of Ingthor, Rogue Orcs and less inteligent goblins settle here and attempt to build civilization, although this usually fails due to the pressure they face from migrating dangers from Dragnerth, the military patrols from the empire, and races that prefer to live within nature such as Boggarts, Kobolds, and Goliaths.

Current Conflicts

The Empire is attempting to seize control of the continent as Ulndear wishes to release his Devils, but has not yet made any moves. Dragons begin to migrate into Ingthor meaning the rogue goblins and orcs of ingthor are attempting to traverse the mountains into the resistance. The Empire has previously attempted to infiltrate the prison on outcast island. The social divide between the races in the south of kingdom Avalon is growing worse. The Empire attempts to gain control over the lake arguing that it is for their safety although it is known they are using it to help them infiltrate the other territories in the future. People in the west of Kingdom Avalon believe the kingdom should move for a more democratic governing system, however those in the north of Kingdom Avalon believe this is a bad idea due to the recent corrupt government of what is now the resistance. The Goblins are angry after being pushed out of their settlements in Ingthor after growing Empire presence attempting to move north and capture dragon-kind; therefore the more intelligent goblins have migrated to Kingdom Avalon and The Resistance. Kingdom Avalon and The Empire both have active spies in either country.

Magic & Religion

Magic users are born with a certain level of mana. They are able to train to improve the power, vividness, and potency of their magic, however, the level of mana is set from birth. The only ways mana volume can be increased is through conduits and or true devotion to a god or devil relating to their magical skill or element. The strength, ability, and vivid shape of ones mana is dependent on the users ability to channel, control, and formulate an image of their mana and magic. If users fire too many high mana requirement spells in quick succession they will pass out as the mana does not have time to regenerate and the user runs out of energy. There is a religion known as plutonism, with followers known as daeitists, where followers worship the more powerful and significant gods, specifically devoting themselves to gods relating to their races, classes, and interests. Plutonism has a holiday in the spring called Lorion where followers gather in the royal capital of Kingdom Avalon for a large festival in order to celebrate the gods. There is a religion called Eqrxnth (named after the late devil king) that worships the devils. Followers of Eqrxnth are called Eqrxnth's disciples and usually follow the religion because they feel betrayed by the gods, or as though life is against them, although some follow the religion by choice. Eqrxnth is largely followed in the Empire; and has a holiday in the winter called Tjlarak where the sealed gate of Tjlra opens up from the underworld and Eqrxnth's disciples pass through offerings through the gate in hopes that they will be granted protection on "Deliverance day", a day Eqrxnth's disciples believe will come when the devils gain enough power to break the gate's seal and permanently open Tjlra. There is a cult that worships Cthulhu and Chimera known as Hlrathnar, situated in a village on the south coast that sits across the border between the Empire and Kingdom Avalon. The cult is a dangerous force, with its followers called Hlithnites often attempting to raid nearby villages and settlements in order to spread the influence of their deities. There is a religion worshiping nature, creatures, and the forest called Faenre, with its followers called Faereers. The main body of the Faenre religion is situated in the Shadow Grove Forest, with the people there being especially in touch with creatures, and usually harnessing nature magic. Most elves are Faereers but Faenre can be followed by any race. Faereers are a neutral friendly religion living through progressive values and care for those that come through the forest needing aid. The holiday of Faenre is on summer solstice, where followers migrate to the deepest and darkest part of the forest to communicate and make offering to the forest gods. There Is a religion that worships spirits called Sphaerune with followers called the Sphae. Worshippers of Sphaerune are in touch with the spirits and can call upon them when needed, and can usually wield spirit magic alongside their birth-given element. Spirits have a multitude of powers depending on the type of spirit relating to each magical element. The holiday of Sphaerune is held in the autumn, where the Sphae and spirits gather within the Shadow grove forest in order to rejuvenate the forest's magic in time for winter to ensure it lives. The Sphae and the Faereers often ally together. There is a declining religion, along with declining magic users called Ythmana, worshippers of mana called Arcanes. Arcanes have the ability to tap into mana in the environment to amplify their magical power. The Ythmana holiday is held in the winter in the mountainous region Howler Peaks during snow when the mana is strongest, praying to the mana gods and meditating in the highly concentrated mana region. The final religion is called Aspnir with followers called Aspites, a faith regarding those that worship the lesser, and less well known gods. Aspites worship niche gods that are less known and therefore have less power. The Aspnir holiday is in the spring, where Aspites gather in Paligenesia to spread the faith of their gods to celebrate and strengthen their presence.

Historical Ages

The Resistance Age from year 579 until present (596), during which the uprising against the recently formed government (formed in the year 568) in Nalmar (the territory now known as The Resistance) took place. the government was overthrown in the year 595 and has since started being rebuilt as the resistance in the present year 596. The Dark Ages, spanning the years 238-400, where underdark forces consisting of Dhampir, Duergar, and shadow goblins invaded the surface of the continent and banded together with power seeking races such as the goblins, Orcs, and githyanki. The Races of the continent were slaughtered and the remaining populations split, half escaped to the Elven home in the Shadow Grove forest, some to the howler peaks and the rest that weren't accepted by the elves and couldn't survive the weather in the mountains tried their luck in Dragnerth. After realising this was the work of the Devils, the gods stepped in, chose avatars to fight in their stead and granted them great power. Whilst all avatars died in the fight to regain control, the underdark forces were reduced enough that the remaining elf forces, along with the help of the spirits, faeries, and mythical beasts could finish off the remaining evils. However during this age, many of the continents magic users perished, faith in the gods to protect them declined, and and remaining evil forces escaped toward the east and now make up part of what is now the empire in present day (596). The next significant age was the steel age, spanning the years 400-492. During the steel age forces from the empire attempted to expand their borders by infiltrating the eastern villages of Kingdom Avalon in year 402. Due to the decline in magic users during the dark age, the eastern villages had to resort to using steel weapons, but due to the recency of the dark ages, there were no skilled armies or magic forces to defend them and so many unskilled fighters ventured the battlefield using steel weapons, a fighting method never truly popularised due to the ability to use magic; however, with homeland advantage and the support of some elven magic users, the east of Kingdom Avalon fully deterred the empire invaders in 459 and came out with some very skilled weapon users, and since then the use of weapons has become largely popularised even amongst magic users, with some finding the use of magic and weapons to complement each other. In the year 472 the first magic weapon imbued with runic magic was discovered in an ancient ruin, which eventually led to the first magic weapon being created in 492, which whilst much weaker than the one discovered, was a great milestone in the history and creation of weapons.

Economy & Trade

On continent Malnaron, the resistance and kingdom Avalon utilise free market capitalist systems, whereas the empire utilises very interventionist market policies through its dictatorship. On the continent there are coins in gold, silver, bronze, and copper. For reference, 50 copper is equal to one bronze coin, 25 bronze coins are equal to one silver coin, and 15 silver coins is equal to one gold coin. In terms of purchasing power, a nights stay in an inn costs around 40 copper coins, a basic wooden sword costs around 2 bronze coins, a steel sword costs around 12 bronze coins, a magic weapons costs around 9 silver coins, and special weapons such as cursed and holy weapons can cost around 3 gold coins depending on its power. Basic food such as bread and apples cost around 10-15 copper coins, with vegetables costing around 30-45 copper, and standard meats costing around 6 bronze coins. The resistance, kingdom Avalon, and the empire all have their own farmland and are self-sustaining, however, the resistance farms more meat and livestock, and kingdom Avalon has a higher yield of crops. Trade happens largely through the lake as it is faster to transport goods by boat. As for minerals, materials, and goods acquired from creatures, adventurers are commissioned by adventurer or merchants guilds who then buy what the adventurers have gathered which are then traded and distributed from the guilds. There are also groups that specialise in gathering and creating certain materials and goods such as dwarves leading mining expeditions and being highly skilled in weapon crafting. The resistance and Kingdom Avalon have good trade relations and trade frequently at favourable rates, however due to the past of the empire, kingdom Avalon and the resistance sell to the empire at a higher price, and will refuse to sell the empire some items such as magic weapons. The lands of Dragnerth and ingthor have no civilized structure, the races that inhabit these uncontrolled lands sustain themselves through tribes that steal, kill, and forge their own weapons. Any trade that happens through allied tribes in the regions of Dragnerth and Ingthor are exchanges of items and goods, as those that live in these areas would only ever find currency on the bodies of passing adventurers that they kill.

Law & Society

In Kingdom Avalon, the Royal guard police the territory, consisting of mages and swordsmen. Laws within Kingdom Avalon focus on protecting the royal family and the people of the kingdom, however there is some corruption as adventurers of higher status and nobles are not as strictly bound by the law. Adventurers are generally not as strictly bound by the law but murder against innocent citizens, theft, treason, etc still apply. Slavery of orphaned non-human races is generally socially accepted but is a trade that is declining within Kingdom Avalon. Due to the recent Resistance age, the resistance has no formal law or governing system, and therefore towns and villages are self-policed by the people living there, and the capital is policed by the resistance's adventurers and military. In the resistance slavery has been completely eradicated. The Empire is an Authoritarian dictatorship where anyone who speaks out against the leader of the country is arrested. Torture is sometimes used, and brutal methods are not past the Orc and evil Tiefling forces of the empire. The people of the empire must conform to the leader, there is a lot of corruption and the policing forces of the empire abuse peasants for entertainment. Slavery is widely used within the empire. The empire is a fascist regime that exploits peasants and commoners.

Monsters & Villains

The empire led by the Devil Ulndear is planning to take over the continent, with each of Yildirus' close followers making moves to expand the strength of their forces by invading ancient ruins within its neighbouring territories. The Cult Hlrathnar has been causing the growing racial divide in the south of Kingdom Avalon in attempts to recruit the races that are being discriminated against. The religion of Eqrxnth is attempting to open the gate Tjlra to allow the devils to enter the overworld. A Small Army of golems have suspiciously gained enchanted power and is terrorising the region of Ingthor, disrupting the balance and order and forcing Orcs and goblins into the resistance. An ancient dragon warrior has disappeared and has disturbed the flow of mana in the north. A tribe of boggarts in Ingthor has stolen a holy weapon from the resistance and is hiding it. A demonic presence has been active within the lake. Fallen Angels have been spotted in The Shadow Grove forest. A new cult has landed by boat upon the cove in Kingdom Avalon stating they're here to collect their debt although no-one on the continent knows who they are or what debt they are talking about.
