In the low‑magic realm of Hollow Steel, ancient kingdoms of humans, dragons, elves, and dwarves battle a spreading Deep Rot that twists land, creatures, and even the very magic they wield, while subterranean Vroth either flee or transform under its influence. Amid crumbling castles, dying forests, and collapsing caverns, heroes must unite across cultures to uncover the corruption’s source before the world itself unravels.

World Overview

This is a low magic medieval technology world. Magic exists but is often times something you must be born with the innate ability to use.

Geography & Nations

Valtherion – A noble, ancient kingdom known for towering castles and a long royal lineage. Mostly inhabited by High Humans. Drakemire – A dark, mist-covered land where dragons and shadowy forces are said to dwell. Mostly inhabited by Drakken. Elarindor – A radiant, elven-inspired realm filled with forests, magic, and timeless beauty. Mostly inhabited by Sylvan Elves. Kharzun Vale – A rugged, mountainous kingdom of warriors, stone fortresses, and hidden mines. Mostly inhabited by Stone Dwarves.

Races & Cultures

High Humans (Aurelian Kin) – The dominant race of Valtherion, known for nobility, tradition, and structured society. Drakken – The ruling race of Drakemire, dragon-blooded beings who value strength, clans, and harsh survival. Sylvan Elves – The primary inhabitants of Elarindor, deeply magical forest dwellers tied to nature and enchantment. Stone Dwarves – The majority in Kharzun Vale, master craftsmen and resilient mountain warriors. Vroth (Cavefolk) – A subterranean, tribal race that dwells in deep caverns and winding tunnels. Often seen by outsiders as simple-minded due to their guttural speech and primal customs, the Vroth possess strong survival instincts and a deep, instinctual awareness of their surroundings. They rely on sound, scent, and touch to navigate the dark, and their clan-based society revolves around territory, survival, and ritual.

Current Conflicts

A strange corruption—known as the Deep Rot—is spreading from beneath the world, twisting land, creatures, and even magic itself. In Valtherion, crops are failing and once-pure water sources are turning foul, causing unrest among the High Humans. In Drakemire, the Drakken find their ancestral caverns collapsing or tainted, and some clans are becoming unnaturally aggressive. In Elarindor, the forests are slowly dying, with animals growing hostile and ancient magic becoming unstable. In Kharzun Vale, the Stone Dwarves are the first to encounter the corruption deep underground—entire tunnels are being consumed or transformed into hostile environments. The Vroth are closest to its origin, and many of them have either fled the depths… or changed because of it.

Magic & Religion

Solvaris – God of the Sun, justice, and rightful rule (High Humans – Valtherion) Pyroth – Dragon God of fire, destruction, and rebirth (Drakken – Drakemire) Elyndor – Spirit of the forest and all living growth (Sylvan Elves – Elarindor) Durak Stonefather – God of stone, creation, and craftsmanship (Stone Dwarves – Kharzun Vale) Vruul – The Deep Mother, goddess of caves, darkness, and survival (Vroth – Cavefolk)

Historical Ages

The Age of Sundering Before the kingdoms existed, all races lived in scattered tribes across a wild, untamed world. Magic flowed freely, and the land was unstable—forests shifted, mountains cracked, and deep caverns stretched endlessly below. During this time, the first signs of the Deep Rot appeared, spreading quietly beneath the earth. As the corruption grew, it drove creatures mad, poisoned lands, and forced the races into conflict over safe territory. In response, each race turned inward—uniting their people, claiming land, and forming the foundations of what would become their kingdoms. Ancient alliances were broken, borders were drawn, and the old tribal world was left behind. The Age ended when the races sealed away the source of the corruption… or so they believed.
